Upcoming Pixel Notepad and Tablet to get side-mounted fingerprint scanner

Google moved to an under-the-display fingerprint scanner onboard the Pixel 6 series. This year, it did the same with the Pixel 7 series although its efficiency has been improved by a lot followed by full support for the face unlock. However, the upcoming Pixel Tablet and Pixel Notepad will make a switch to the traditional side-mounted fingerprint scanner instead as it was found by the folks at 9to5Mac in the code designed for Android UI testing on these two devices.

According to the report, one of the devices that are being tested has a Y-aligned style of sensor which means either the fingerprint scanner is on the right or on the left. Apart from that, it says that there are two configurations where the device is either folded or unfolded. It’s quite obvious that it is talking about Google’s upcoming Pixel Notepad or Fold. It goes on to show that the placement of the side-mounted FPS should be such that no matter if the phone is folded or unfolded, it is on the same side ensuring that the same sensor is used. The report also corroborates the screen resolution that we can see with the foldable devices. It’s 18402240 for the inner display while the outer display has a resolution of 10802100 pixels as mentioned. Another update is related to the brightness of the display which is at 1200 peak and 800 nits of typical high brightness. Additionally, the display likely has a 120Hz refresh rate to match with Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 among others. There’s another style of sensor called X-aligned which is likely for the Pixel Tablet. It shows that the side-mounted fingerprint scanner is either on the top or bottom of the edge on either of the sides. Moreover, the display has a resolution of 2560*1600 although we aren’t aware of the display tech or other details. About the launch date, both devices are slated to arrive in 2023 which means we still have almost a year before the upcoming launch.
