iPhone 14 series to use A16 Bionic chipset
According to Apple Analyst Ming Chi Kuo, the iPhone 14 Pro variants will be the one to pick up the A16 bionic chipset while the non-pro models will resort to A15 bionic chipset. To put things into perspective, Apple has been upping its chipset game for ages now offering chipsets with better performance gains year-on-year. With iPhone 14 Pro models gets A16 Bionic chipset on a 5nm node, the USP is likely to be flushed as the processor will offer minimal performance gains compared to the last year’s chipset. This is because it uses the same fabrication node as A15 SoC and even A14 SoC. There’s a chipset shortage pushing tech companies to a corner and this is probably one of the reasons why Apple decided to opt this approach. What’s even more astounding is the fact that non Pro iPhone 14 models will still retain last year’s A15 SoC which means Apple won’t be able to bank on the marketing that the Pro models will be able to dabble with.
iPhone 14 series will get different RAMs
Apart from the different chipsets, iPhone 14 Pro models will get LPDDR5 RAM while the iPhone 14 models will get to LPDDR4X RAM instead. That’s another difference that Ming Chi Kuo has quoted with respect to the upcoming series slated to arrive in September/October 2022 although the dates are yet to be out officially.
